Winfield Scott Hancock was an American Union army officer during the Civil War. His life, military career, and political involvement were recorded, most notably, by John Forney. In Forney’s account of Hancock, he discusses his childhood and personal life, but focuses primarily on the rise of the Confederacy prior to the Civil War. This finely illustrated book features accounts of the Battle of Gettysburg and the role of Abraham Lincoln in the war.
Illustrations in this first edition include portraits, battle scenes, and views of Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, and Antietam.
