She received early training for the artistically gifted at Carnegie Mellon University while still in elementary school. She graduated magna cum laude from Washington & Jefferson College with a degree in art and was an adjunct professor of art until moving to South Carolina. She has been a professional artist for over 20 years. For more than a decade, she and her husband owned and operated several art galleries in Charleston.Her impressionistic palette knife paintings exhibit lush textures, at times almost sculptural, combined with detailed brushwork to emphasize the focal point. She has had a lifelong passion for nature and wildlife, refining her skills by studying with masters such as John Seerey-Lester and Lynn Gertenbach. A resident of the Charleston, South Carolina area for the past 15 years, Dobbin is a member of Oil Painters of America, Artists for Conservation and the American Impressionist Society. Her work is included in the collection of a former US president as well as in corporate and private collections throughout the US, Europe and Australia. She is currently represented in Charleston by Ibis Fine Art at 11 Broad Street. She is also represented by the Karis Gallery on Hilton Head Island and the Destination Gallery in South Boston, VA.
