Description
Leon Danchin (French, 1887-1939). 4 etchings of sporting dogs published in Paris, ca. 1930s. Four hand-signed and numbered etchings of various sporting dogs created by Leon Danchin, who is widely recognized as one of the best artists of the canine species. The etchings depicts an Irish Setter, a Cocker Spaniel, an English Setter, and a Labrador Retriever. With his fine eye for expression and detail, Danchin paid homage to "man's best friend" with works like these. Size of plate mark for brown setter in profile: 15.25" L x 11" W (38.7 cm x 27.9 cm) Size of sheet: 22.375" L x 15" W (56.8 cm x 38.1 cm)

Born in Lille, France in 1887, Leon Danchin studied sculpture at Ecole des Beaux Art in Paris and was accepted by the Salon des Artists at the age of sixteen. Over the course of his career he produced over 100 etchings and lithographs, and he was especially enamored with depicting the sporting life of animals. In addition to creating prints, Danchin was a painter as well as a sculptor.
