Description
Five Aboriginal Story Boards (tjurunga or churinga) Australia, early 20th century Wood with natural pigments. Three appear to be a set with matching geometric designs grooved on front and back. The smallest with serpentine grooves on one side and concentric circles on the other side. Fifth painted in serpentine line down middle surrounded by dots in white pigment. All in very good condition, probably original as collected, with stains and minor nicks on edges. Provenance: Collected by Valentine Pasvolsky of Lakewood, NJ between 1930-1970 Lengths: ranging from 14 ½ to 19 inches
