Biography: Douglas Denniston studied painting with Raymond Jonson and co-founded the Transcendental Painting Group with Emil Bistrram in 1938. In 1945 he came to New Mexico and became involved in the Santa Fe/Taos Art Movement. His work during this period was mainly abstract. By the 1950s, when he began a teaching position at the University of Arizona, he began working in a more representational style. His work has been exhibited at MOMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Butler Institute of American Art.
