Archive of six (6) items related to The Space Shuttle Columbia (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-102), the first space-rated orbiter in NASA's Space Shuttle fleet, launched for the first time on mission STS-1 on April 12, 1981, the first flight of the Space Shuttle program, including a flown American flag and thermal tile fragment, and a photograph signed by crew members John Watts Young and Robert Laurel Crippen. 1st item: Flown American flag carried aboard the Columbia, mounted to a presentation certificate with facsimile signatures of the crew and Christopher C. Kraft, Jr., Director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center from January 1972-August 1982. Housed under glass in a black wooden frame with gilt trim. Flag: 4 1/4" H x 5 3/4" W. Sight: 11" H x 9" W.
