Provenance: A San Antonio, Texas estate 

Volney Allan Richardson was a painter, illustrator, muralist, decorative painter, teacher and lecturer. He was primarily known for his paintings of floral still lifes, landscapes, murals, marine/harbor scenes, townscapes, figurative works, and portraits. Richardson typically worked in oil but was known to use watercolors as well. Richardson was born in 1880 in Attica, New York. After attending Attica High School, Richardson studied at the Buffalo School of Fine Arts at the Albright Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, with William Merritt Chase. He also studied at the Art Students' League of Buffalo, New York, and the Art Students' League in New York City under Edward Dufner, after winning the New York scholarship in 1905. He died in 1955 in Houston, Texas.
