Description
DURRELL LAWRENCE: (1912-1990) British Novelist & Poet. A.L.S., Larry, two pages, 8vo, Sommieres, France, n.d. ('Saturday', 1970s), to Margaret McCall ('Darling') at the BBC in London. Durrell commences his letter to his mistress by enquiring 'What is all this mysterious nonsense about silences?' and continues to explain that he has been busy getting his affairs in order, dealing with income tax and making a new will, further remarking 'I have nothing either on or in my mind, and presumed that everything was whichever way it was between us. If you say it isn't what on earth? Anyway, its up to you to feel what you feel you feel. Mine not to reason why - not too much anyway.' Durrell also comments on his literary work, 'I've written a long long poem or chain of poems put together with string called The Vampire Book' and in a postscript, penned in a different colour of ink, informs McCall that he sent a card to her office the day before giving her details of his upcoming flight from Marseille to London. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Durrell. One very minor, small crease and tear to the upper right corner, VG Margaret McCall (1925-2008) British television producer of arts programmes and wife of the script writer Philip Broadley.
