Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A dazzling jar, mold-blown from brilliant yellow glass with a spherical body, rounded shoulders, a corseted neck, and a wide flared rim, all sitting upon a slightly concave base. The body is vertically lined with integral, chocolate-brown ribs as rigaree of the same color zigzags between the rim and shoulder. Across most of the surface is a layer of lustrous rainbow as well as silvery iridescence that formed as the glass aged and accentuates its beautiful form.
