Description
John Leon Moran, a good late 19th century full length watercolor portrait of a young girl, the figure in a white christening dress looking slightly to her left, hands just touching at her waist, before a blue vignette background bordered by pink roses and foliage, matted and contained in it's original acanthus carved, gilded frame, sight size 10 1/2 in. x 13 3/4 in., signed at lower right. Includes a portion of the June 12, 1890 edition of New York's "The Globe" newspaper found behind the image when rematting.
Condition
very good, image rematted, minor wear to gilding, and two small losses to gesso at lower left and right, one eye for picture wire has penetrated the carving at left. John Leon Moran (1864- 1941) was the son of English born marine painter Edward Moran. He excelled at figure painting, and much of his best work was executed in watercolor. ACCESSORIES: Newspaper
