Description
Painted Miniature Brooch. Late 19th century 18kt yellow gold brooch comprised of a central painted miniature depicting two seated ladies, one with a book and one with a dog. A foliate form crown showcases a central faceted emerald flanked by pearl accents, with a similar trio at the bottom portion of the brooch. Emeralds measure approx. 3.8mm x 3.9mm and 5.5mm x 4.0mm; pearls measure approx. 4.0mm each. Stamped with a French export mark of a Mercury head representing .750 or 18kt gold (1840-1879); a second partial stamp of an unidentified maker. Total approx. weight of brooch is 21.5 dwt (gross). From an Oley, PA estate. Dimensions: brooch measures approx. 1.68" w x 2.70" h.
Condition
Good, with light surface scratches and minor dings/dents. One pearl missing. Plaque has not been examined outside of frame. Small area of solder verso - possible repair.
