Provenance: Believed to have been acquired, together with 7 other drawings, directly from the artist by Laura and Constantine Mako (Beverly Hills) sometime prior to 1968. Sold to the former owner, now deceased, in 1968 by Laura Mako. A copy of a redacted Bill of Sale signed by Laura Mako is included in the lot description.

Laura Mako was a much-admired Beverly Hills celebrity decorator, whose clients included Jimmy Stewart, Danny Kaye, Gregory Peck, and Gerald & Betty Ford. Laura Mako was married to American tennis player and art gallery owner, Constantine Mako, who was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1973. Prior to her successful career as one of the most renowned decorators of her time, Laura Mako was a Hollywood actress (Laura Mae Church).
