Description
1895 Indian Massacres Native American Life Torture Sitting Bull Illustrated WARS
Henry Northrop’s “Indian Massacres” is a supremely biased account of warfare and relationships between Native American Indian tribes and the ‘White’ settlers from the early 17th-century through the end of the 19th-century. The book appears to have been published shortly after the Battle (or massacre) of Wounded Knee. There is commentary and details on torture, murders, scalping, rape, battles, massacres, and more. Northrop also includes ideas on how to “civilize the savages” and change them of their customs, culture, and military issues.
Northrop himself states in the preface of this work:
“This work embraces a full account of all the memorable Indian wars in the United States, together with a record of terrible personal encounters with the Red Men, hairbreadth escapes, thrilling captures, and bloody massacres.”
This undated edition includes numerous black and white illustrations and photographs of Indian Chiefs and was published in the same year under the title “Indian Horrors!”
