"The People's Common Sense Medical Adviser in Plain English or Medicine Simplified" by R.V. Pierce M.D., one of the staff of consulting physicians and surgeons at the Invalids Hotel and Surgical Institute and president of the worlds dispensary Medical Association.

Twenty-Sixth Edition Carefully Revised by the Author by the full staff of Associate Specialists in Medicine and Surgery the Faculty of the Invalids Hotel and Surgical Institute. Published at The World's Dispensary Printing Office and Bindery, Buffalo, NY, 1891, copyright 1889 by the World's Dispensary Medical Association; illustrated.

Original 1891 edition which was designed for family use, presenting the latest in medicine in 1891. Included is the Author's Preface to the 1886 Edition, and the Author's Preface to the first edition of 1875. The book covers Physiology, Hygiene, Temperaments, Diseases and Domestic Remedies.

Ray Vaughn Pierce (1840-1914) graduated from Eclectic Medical College, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1862. He practiced medicine in Titusville, Pennsylvania from 1862 to 1866, and moved to Buffalo, New York in 1867. Pierce engaged in the manufacture and sale of patent medicines and established the Invalids' Hotel and Surgical Institute. His manufacturing business started with "Doctor Pierce's Favorite Prescription", which he followed with other medicines, including Smart Weed and Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets. His venture proved a success, with nearly one million bottles of Dr. Pierce's Smart Weed and other preparations shipped annually. He was a member of the New York State Senate (31st D.) in 1878 and 1879. Pierce was elected as a Republican to the 46th United States Congress, holding office from March 4, 1879 to September 18, 1880.

Hard boards, original publisher’s cloth [a little wear and soiling], embossed blind lettering on both boards, gold lettering on spine, 5.1/2” x 8.1/2”; the back endpaper is creased at the hinges, 1,008 pages including Index [one Index page has a repaired crease], fully illustrated with b/w text illustrations, a little wear, very good condition.
