Description
Rare cabinet card of the Baldwin Hotel in San Francisco. Three horse-drawn wagons are out in front. "H.B. Sloven" can be read on a banner in front. HB Sloven ran a pharmacy in the hotel until the late 1870s. Reverse has pencil writing stating "This Hotel Was On The Northeast Corner of Powell And Market Streets Now The Site Of The Flood Bldg." And printed at top is "The Baldwin Hotel." 6.5 x 4.25" Toning and foxing. Built by "Lucky" Baldwin in 1876, who made his millions on the Comstock when his Norcross mining stock was accidently not sold before a rich strike was made.
