Description
French pilot Louis Paulhan was a frequent participant in airshows in the US and Europe. At the 1910 Los Angeles International Air Meet at Dominguez Field, he broke his own altitude record with a flight of more than 4,600 feet above the admiring crowd below. Five of these postcards commemorate that event, another shows him piloting a biplane with a Mrs. Ferris as a passenger, and the seventh shows him overhead at Tanforan Park, California. Paulhan was sued by the Wright brothers for earning money flying a machine that used their patented method of aileron control surfaces. Paulhan lost the case and flew in future events for free. Rather than fight the patent, he left the US and returned to France.Date: Country (if not USA): State: City: Provenance: Ken Prag Collection
