Description
17th-19th century AD. A polychrome painting of Shah Jahan wearing an elaborate cream and purple tunic with sash and scarf, a plumed and bejewelled turban upon his head with a turquoise-coloured nimbus behind; a hilted dagger tucked underneath the belt and a large curving sword and shield suspended from his left side, holding a jewelled cylinder in his raised left hand; standing against a predominantly green background with white and blue skyscape at the top; two further pages attached to the back of the painting with script. 8.32 grams, 18.5cm (7 1/4"). From the family collection of a Hampstead gentleman; formerly acquired in the 1980s. [No Reserve]
