Description
A Tall slender cylindrical carved fetish with highly stylized features and well handled surface patina, on iron spike. According to literature , among the Wurkun ( or Junkun) if a member of the tribe suffers misfortune or disease, they consult a shaman priest or healer. Before the healing ceremony, the individual is instructed to commission kundul figures such as this, typically carved by blacksmiths from the community. To activate the figure for use in the healing ceremony, the healer sprinkles offerings of animal blood and the idols are rubbed with oils. The figure measures 25 inches tall on its custom base. Provenance: The Robert Banks collection, Maryland.
