**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Late Classic period, ca. 550 to 900 CE; Colombia, Tairona region, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A charming set of hand-built pottery vessels. First is a Maya creamware poison bottle depicting a stylized turkey with plumed wings, a petite head, and a feathered tail. Within the cylindrical spout are vermilion traces of the original poison. Second is a Tairona brownware jarlet exhibiting a Janiform presentation with puffy features surrounding a perky nose. Size of largest (Maya turkey): 2.5" W x 2.125" H (6.4 cm x 5.4 cm).
Provenance: ex-private Schmitt collection, Indiana, USA

Condition
Both vessels have minor abrasions to bodies and raised features, with fading to original coloration, and light encrustations within, otherwise intact and very good. Turkey jar has a small but stable fissure along body. Light earthen deposits throughout.
