Description
This lot consists of a framed oil painting on canvas, done in the Post-Impressionist style of Pierre Bonnard (French, 1867-1947). This bold image depicts a nude female figure reclining in a bed of color and painterly brush strokes. A scene of reverie and sensuality, this attractive piece would be a handsome addition to any collector's gallery. Framed dimensions approximately 18" x 30".
Reverse side of canvas features handwritten graphite inscriptions (written in French).
Pierre Bonnard (French, 1867-1947) was a painter, illustrator, and printmaker known for his bold use of color and for being a founding member of the Post-Impressionist painters' group, Les Nabis. Bonnard was strongly influenced by the work of Paul Gauguin and Katsushika Hokusai. Claude Roger-Marx remarked that Bonnard "catches fleeting poses, steals unconscious gestures, crystallises the most transient expressions."
