Description
This is a handsome smaller map of France bounded by the Pyrenees in the south and the Alps in the east. Much detail is offered as to additional topography, rivers including the Seine and Rhone (Rosne), and cities, including Paris, Marseille, Brest, Lyon (Lion), and many more. This is from the pocket version of Ortelius' Theatrum, "Abrege du Theatre d'Ortelius, Contenat la Description des Principales Parcies & Regions du Monde..." P Galle published first the pocket versions, then also J B Vrients, commonly known as the Epitome from 1577 to 1602. This map was published by Vrients. French text on verso.
