Description
A Chinese cloisonne censer with bamboo-form feet, handles, and trim dating from the 17th century. It comes with a matching bamboo-form wood stand and lid, which has a pair of engaged jadeite rings as the finial. The censer itself features lotus tracery on a blue ground on the exterior and bottom. There is a band of ruyi near the rim.
Dimensions are: the censer alone measures 2 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide, 6.4 cm X 12.7 cm, while the censer with the stand and lid measures 5 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide, 14 cm X 12.7 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There are areas of repair to both handles. There are areas of loss to the cloisonne. The stand has multiple areas of repair.
Provenance: From Mr. Burns in Palm Springs, California. Most of the items were acquired in New York City over 30 years ago.
