This Vintage Cast Iron Original Crescent Toy Stove with Extra Items shows very little wear. It was picked from an avid collector. It is an interesting piece from our past. Not confirmed but reported to be originally made by both Ideal and Kenton about 1899. It has the stovepipe which is commonly missing. Has 4 burner covers plus grill top with lift lever and pots and pans. Includes both side shelves and a coal bucket and shovel. Measures approx. 8 ½” tall X 9 ½" wide X 4 ½" deep.
There has been much debate on this being a Salesman's Sample or a toy. The Salesman Sample line is used to fool Newbies to collecting these stoves to pay higher and more ridiculous prices. I am in the group that believe that these were toys not salesman’s samples. There are reproductions of this item but they are not well made and parts are ill fitting and they use Philips screws. The stove features a wonderful decorative detail work, an opening oven door with embossed Crescent logo. Most likely made in the earlier part of 1900’s (50’s back)
