"Tsarevich Ivan, the Firebird and the Gray Wolf," fairy tale by Alexander Pushkin, artwork by Alexander Klupov [signed in plate "Palekh, 1989-2"]; Limited edition porcelain plate by the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, Leningrad, Soviet Union. Stated First Series of the Fairy Tales collector plates produced by Lomonosov Factory.
This plate is the only official issue of the artwork "Tsarevich Ivan and the Firebird" specially designed for this series by the artist Alexander Klupov, the master-painter of the artists' village Palekh, specialized on the black lacquer painting. The motif is based on the fairy tale by Alexander Pushkin. The edition of this plates limited to 195 days of firing; special layers of pigments and original 18kt gold was need to recreate the Palekh black lacquer painting effects. It is the first such edition of the ornamental Palekh style plates created by Lomonosov Porcelain Factory, which was founded by the Empress Elisabeth in 1744. First Series. The motif mark is "Brandex 60-L55-1.1" copyright 1990 by Palekh. Hand-written number 'D2196'.

The plate is c.7.3/4” [19.7cm] across, there are two holes in the rim on the backside for the hanging; fine condition.
