An exceptional Russian Icon, Moscow, 1841 or 1844. Comprising an icon of Christ, the Lord Almighty. The icon painted and overlaid with an exceptionally crafted silver repousse and chased riza with a silver filigree halo decorated in cloisonné in rich colors. Riza hallmarked Moskow, 1841-1844, silver standard mark 84 Zolotnik and the cyrillic makers mark, which is AK, Andrey Kovalskiy. He was active from 1827-1856 and there was also (2) other cyrillic letters, which appear to be H and O.Provenance: From the estate of a maitre d'hotel who resided in New Jersey. This was part of his private collection, along with the other icons in this sale and the artifacts of Oscar Tschirky (Oscar of the Waldorf). Condition: As found in the estate in New Jersey. There is a few nails missing from the riza on the front; there is a crack on the riza bottom center, but still shows well; there is also cracks on the riza on the top right corner, a nail hole through the riza, top left; numerous cracks and chips found on the riza's edge and sides. There is a crack in the riza, left side center; there is some loss to enamel / cloisonné and other minor condition issues.
