Description
Northern Europe, England, ca. last quarter of the 19th century CE. A fine pair of Queen Anne style sconces, each comprised of a hand-carved mahogany frame, a brass candle holder, and a lovely needlepoint in hues of green, blue, yellow, red, pink, peach, grey, cream, orange, black, and brown. Both frames are of ovoid form with an elaborate top periphery of undulating abstract imagery and a wavy lower periphery. Each displays a needlepoint scene at its center; one featuring a seated lady on a hillside with a large bird at her side and a castle in the distant background, while the other shows a seated boy holding a sack of seed as he feeds birds on a hillside. Both exhibit a brass attachment below the needlepoints, each which boasts 2 spiraling vegetal arms that stretch outwards to support 2 candles. Brass loops at the top and bottom allow for the sconces to be attached to the wall. Size (both the same): 9.875" W x 19.5" H (25.1 cm x 49.5 cm)
