Description
1869 Glazier CIVIL WAR Gettysburg Andersonville Libby Capture Prison Pen Escape

Willard Glazier was a soldier of the 2nd New York, rising to the rank of Lieutenant and was captured in October 1863, and held at the infamous Libby Prison. He escaped twice, and eventually joined the 26th New York and served until the end of the Civil War.

His time in prison inspired his famous book ‘The Capture, The Prison Pen, and the Escape’, which he describes in detail life in various Confederate prisons including Savannah, Andersonville, and Salisbury. Note Eicher’s entry of this work:

“This is an early account…of the war. The story of this soldier’s experiences during a multitude of battles is worthwhile. He narrates his unit’s part in Pope’s campaign in Virginia,…and Gettysburg.”
