Description
Classic Moshe Dayan TLS to the Minister of Defense About the Burial of Citizens in the Sinai in the Aftermath of The Six Day War
Typed Letter Signed "Moshe Dayan", in Hebrew, 2 pages, 6.5" X 8.25" and 8.25" X 2.5". Addressed to [a] member of the Knesset Avraham Verdiger. Fine with punch holes.
The letter reads: "Minister of Defense, The Kirya (Tel-Aviv), 3rd in the month of Av (July 18,1969), PERSONAL, To member of the Knesset Avraham Verdiger - hello, Unfortunately I did not get a chance to answer your question #8414 that was asked on the parliament's meeting. I am attaching the answer from the general command about the orders for burial of citizens who died in Sinai. Regards, Moshe Dayan, Minister of defense.", Copy: Knesset chairman. [page 2] As follows, our suggestions for your answer: A. IDF is responsible for soldiers' casualties; the police are the ones to take care of citizen casualties B. In this case, it is a citizen who was killed in Sinai, which is not the police jurisdiction. The body was transferred by the army to a hospital in Be'er Sheva. The police were informed of the incident; the police were in charge of the paperwork for releasing the body from the hospital. C. Since the incident, we contacted the bodies who were involved and demanded new orders of operation to be set. It shall be that an announcement of a dead citizen to the police in an occupied area will cause for the police to take all responsibility for the case."
