Benjamin Disraeli ALS Re: His Candidacy for Prime Minister
3pp, measuring 4.375" x 7", Grosvenor Gate, London, dated July 9, 1867. Written on black bordered mourning stationery. Signed "B Disraeli" and addressed to Lady Abbey. Reads in full: "Every room of the house is full of my future constituents. You will be glad to hear, that we have no contest. I hope, however, that you will wear my colors, wh: you will find very becoming. Adieu, dear Mrs. Semper." With flattened mail folds, light toning. Boldly signed.
Benjamin Disraeli was first elected to the office of Prime Minister in February 27, 1868. He only held the position for ten months, however, being voted out in December 1868. He later regained the position in 1874, and held onto the title of Prime Minister for six years, ending in April 1880.
