Description
Gilmore Racer. 1937 Hudson Speedster (titled as '31 Ford). Land speed endurance tribute car built in 2008 by Warren Longwell and Dennis Brackeen of Salt Flats Racing in Golden, Colorado. Period correct recreation of a Gilmore Oil Company sponsored endurance racer that would have been raced in the mid to late 1930s. Automotive designer and illustrator Darrell Mayabb was involved in the initial design stage of the vehicle which interprets a similar car built in 1937 by Hudson Motor Company for endurance testing on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. That car was eventually sold to the Gilmore Oil Company for promotional purposes, but disappeared soon after. This car is based loosely on what that Gilmore Speedster looked like during its time on a 6-month nationwide promotional tour. The car was featured in the July 2009 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. Runs well, but front carb is blocked, needs repair or replaced. Build time: one year
