Item Details
Description
With a total production of 452, this Continental Cabriolet is easily as rare as many of the 40s and 50s cars Daryl Hemken managed to find. He was searching out these collector cars well before many were even thought to be collectible! This one came into his hands, strangely enough, during the dark of a Saturday night when he found it in Des Moines. He inspected it in the dark but then told the owner he would buy it only if it was delivered to Williams, Iowa by the following day. That Sunday morning, at 7 a.m., he had a new acquisition and the Series 876H Lincoln was part of his collection. It now runs well on a rebuilt engine and is waiting to head down the road, sleek, low and with the top down! The Lincoln has a 305ci V-12 engine (rebuilt in 1990s) packing 130 horsepower which was not offered again by Lincoln after the 1948 year. Lincoln was in the midst of a total rework of their model lineup so the 1948 models didn't get many updates from the year before (or the two years before that), but the Lincoln still held on to its luxury car designation. This car has push button door latches, power windows and top with dimensions much larger than the rest of the Lincoln lineup. With a hood seven inches longer (to fit that V-12 engine), the car stretched 218 total inches. It sits about three inches lower than the rest of the '48 Lincoln models and has a frame design that "incorporates bridge-floor construction with double box section side rails for utmost rigidity and high torsional strength" according to 1948 advertisements. The Lincoln was repainted and upholstered but needs a new top. And as the Lincoln advertising said, "Your perfect introduction...anywhere."
