Circa 3rd century AD A heavy bronze plate brooch in the form of a reclining bull modelled in the half-round with splayed front leg and tilted head; the left eye a sliver of red glass; catchplate and pin-lug to the reverse. See zoomorphic plate brooches in Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, pages 224-252. Bronze, 27 grams, 36 mm (1 1/2") From an old Suffolk collection, acquired in the 1990's. [No Reserve]
