About the artist: Vasily Igorevich Nesterenko was born in 1967 in the city of Pavlograd in Ukraine, in a family of geologists. When Vasily was eight years old, the family moved to Moscow. The artist’s talent manifested itself in early childhood. “I have loved art since childhood. Art is like a disease. Many do not get infected. Many of those who become infected sooner or later recover. And only a few are “sick” all their lives. So I’m one of those who became infected for life, ”said Vasily Nesterenko [1].

Vasily Nesterenko lost his father early. His mother, Galina Vasilyevna Nesterenko, brought up. In 1980, at the age of 13, Vasily entered the Moscow Secondary Art School (now the Moscow Academic Art Lyceum of the Russian Academy of Arts) and graduated in 1985 with a gold medal. Preparation for exams at the Moscow State Academic Art Institute. V.I. Surikova was held in the Studio named after Grekov in the studio of the Honored Artist of the RSFSR Nikolai Prisekin.

In 1991-1992, he trained under the Ministry of Culture of the USSR at the PRATT Art Institute in New York under the supervision of professors Ross Niar, Phoebe Helman, and Frank Lindt. In 1992, he was admitted to the American League of Professional Artists (ALPH). At this time, he participated in many exhibitions in America.

In 1994 he graduated from the Moscow Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov with honors, diploma painting - “The Triumph of the Russian Navy”. From this year he becomes a member of the International Federation of Artists of UNESCO and the International Art Fund.

In 1999, he worked on the restoration of murals of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. His hand painted the Northwest Pylon (“The Resurrection of Christ”, “The Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew”), the northern tympanum (“Baptism of the Lord”), the western tympanum (“Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem”). A little later, 4 icons of the Theotokos cycle, the patronal icon “Shroud”, paintings for the Patriarchal refectory “The Last Supper”, “The Wonderful Multiplication of the Loaves”, “The Wonderful Catch”, “The Marriage in Cana of Galilee” and “Christ and the Samaritan Woman” were executed. Vasily Nesterenko developed the design concept for the entrance hall of the Hall of Church Cathedrals of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and embodied it with a group of artists.

Since 2000, he worked on the interior decoration of the Throne Hall of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, the Assumption Cathedral in Dmitrov (2002), the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity on Borisov Ponds (2004), the church in the name of the Assumption of the Mother of God in the village of Domnino, Susaninsky District, Kostroma Region, family estate of the Romanovs (2004), the temple of the holy righteous warrior Theodore Ushakov in South Butovo (2017).

Since 1995 - a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. In 1999 he received the honorary title “Honored Artist of the Russian Federation”, 2004 - the title “People's Artist of the Russian Federation”. Since 2001 - a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, since 2007 - a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

In 2000, the Moscow State Art Gallery of Vasily Nesterenko was created. Pictures of Vasily Nesterenko can always be seen in the exhibition hall "Chekhov’s House" at Malaya Dmitrovka, 29, building 4. The building was transferred to the gallery on August 24, 2017.
