In Chinese culture, the number 8 is synonymous with wealth, a bat is a symbol for good luck and happiness, the color red symbolizes happiness and joy. Around the bottom of the are 4 pairs of intersecting diamonds, The diamond edges added together are the number 8. Ribbons are used to denote emphasis and importance. Ribbons are seen around the four objects depicted on the top of the box, a ryui or short sword, a flute, a pipe, and a string instrument.
