BALL OF THE CITY OF VIENNA, DANCE CARD PORTFOLIO, SCHUBERT'S 100 YR ANNIVERSARY, 1897, 14 PCS, L 5":3" H. x 5" leather bound portfolio in the form of a book which holds 13 dance cards for the "Ball Der Stadt Wien" (Ball Of The City Of Vienna). A celluloid cameo of Franz Schubert adorns the front cover mounted inside a miniature oval gilt brass frame along with brass vines with leaves and a harp. Ribbon with red enamel above the oval frame; edge of front cover has tooled leather with gilt inlaid leaf designs flanking the dates: '1797-1897'. (marking the 100th anniversary of Franz Schubert's birth). Brass corner brackets at the spine of the portfolio on the front (missing the two at the opposite end); a small celluloid pencil with a brass finial is fed through three leather loops to keep the portfolio closed. Small silk ribbon adornments on the cover above the pencil; wound looped chord with tassels is attached by small brass ring to the binding; a brass hook on the opposite end attaches to the ladies' garment or the loop of chord slips around the wrist; the inside of the portfolio houses the thirteen dance cards with one being the monument of Shubert, the remaining twelve have lines of his music with different scenes and subjects. Inside the front cover is inscribed, next to a city of Vienna crest: "Aug. Klein" in gilt. On the back cover is a blue painted enamel brass shield with the crest of the city of Vienna Austria and below on a brass banner: "Ball Der Stadt Wien" (Ball of the City of Vienna).
