A Porcelain Mezuzah Case from the Famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory. Hand-crafted and Hand-painted. Hungary, 20th C. Length: 12 cm. Marked.


A lovely hand-made and hand-painted porcelain mezuzah case marked on the bottom
'Herend Hungary'. With delicate foliate elements in blue, green and gold paint.
Herend Porcelain Manufactory specializes in hand-painted and gilded porcelain. The firm was founded in 1826 by Vince Stingl, who was born in the Hungarian city of Sopron and studied ceramic art in Vienna. Stingl soon transferred the management of his company to
Moritz Fischer, a Hungarian Jewish industrialist.
Already in the 1850's, items from Herend were sold to the Hungarian aristocracy, and displayed in important exhibitions around the world, including those in Paris and London.
