BIOGRAPHY:
Landscape painter Doug Oliver was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1942. His early education consisted of exposure to the cultural life then available in the area, which for him was a focus on music because his parents were classically trained singers and active in choirs in their respective churches. The family moved from the Midwest to California in 1954. The dramatic views of the western landscape made a significant impression on Oliver as a young boy, and he began to paint landscape images at the age of twelve.Following his graduation from Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, California, he entered Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (now known as California Institute of the Arts) and later a Master of Arts degree from the University of Redlands, California. He was a high school and community college art educator from 1966 to 1981 in Lancaster, California. He married his wife, Barbara in 1966. They raised their two sons, Jeffrey and Jason in Lancaster. They relocated to Prescott, Arizona, where they built a new home and studio on a hilltop overlooking the Prescott National Forest in 1998.His subject matter is known for the southwest landscape and skyscapes in the acrylic medium. Oliver's work has been published by Winn Devon Art Group and Leslie Levy Fine Art Publishing, now associated with Bentley Publishing Group.Doug Oliver has been featured in Southwest Art and Art of the West magazine publications. He and his wife are continuing contributors to charitible causes, and both are active in the cultural community throughout Arizona.Written and Submitted March 2004 by Barbara Oliver, wife of the artist.
