DESCRIPTION: A vintage Taxco Mexico .925 sterling silver fish spice box realistically modelled in the form of a fish. This fish shaped box has an articulated body, allowing the fish position to be customised. The body of the box is embellished with separate dorsal and pectoral fins, in addition to rows of engraved scales. The forked caudal tail fin is further ornamented with engraved textures replicating the fish natural features. This silverfish box is designed with a hinged cover head compartment. This piece was designed by artist William Spratling, an American born silver designer and artist, best known for his influence on 20th century Mexican silver design. It is marked with hallmark "William Spratling Taxco Mexico".
