Description
Chinese Late Ming Sancai Phoenix Porcelain Plate in green. iron red and touches of yellow with a pair of white birds on flowering branches to center and 3 Phoenix birds to cavetto among scrolling flowers, the reverse in clear glaze with a 6 character Chenghua mark inside double rings all in underglaze blue. Diameter 8 1/4 inches (21 cm.). PROVENANCE: From a private South Carolina collection.
Condition
Age related wear to enamels, the base with chatter marks under the clear glaze, a kiln firing line to outside edge stabilized with green enamel and 2 small frits to edge, the base with kiln grit inside foot ring and 2 small chips to outside foot ring.
