Description
Offered in this lot is a necklace of rare, large green Chevron disk cut beads. These disks are a bright highly polished Chevron of white, green, white, red, white, and green. The disks average measurements are 1/2" to 1/4" long by 7/8" to 3/4"across with. These beads are strung on jute twine and the necklace measures 30". There are 83 disks on the necklace. Chevron beads are special glass beads; the first specimens of this type were created by glass bead makers in Venice and Murano, Italy toward the end of the 14th century. Most of the Venetian chevron beads made for export to West Africa and to the Americas have layers in red, blue, and white, with rare exceptions, like these, in a green pattern. Chevron beads are made by a multi-part process. They start with the making of the cane, then another color glass is added, and then this is usually put into a 12 point star mold. This process is repeated for each additional layer on the bead. Chevron beads are also called "Rosetta" and "Star" beads. This necklace of beads is in very good condition.
