Item Details
Description
Western Europe, France, ca. late 18th to mid-20th century CE. A wonderful trio of faience majolica plates with lovely polychrome motifs. The two larger plates are in the Rouen style; tin glazed with "a la corne" motif that was influenced by Rococo and Chinese styles. Both have scalloped, octagonal rims and shallow basins. They feature the same vibrant foliate motif of blue carnations and a cornucopia of abundance, with butterflies, all hand painted in hues of yellow, blue, green, black, and red on a white ground. The third dish is a tea saucer with a pattern of concentric bands in blue and yellow on a white ground and a stylized foliate motif in the center. The verso is signed "Henriot Quimper / Firance." The Quimper factory is renowned for its hand painted faience pieces and is still in production today. Size of smallest: 5.75" Diameter (14.6 cm); largest: 9.75" W (24.8 cm)
