Description
A large fragment of a Coptic tunic with decorative embroidery, Egypt, c. 4th Century AD, gauze-like linen and wool, the "V-neck" visible from the front of the garment. The decoration includes a narrow embroidered strip and a medallion with an eight-pointed star, all in black. Some losses to the edges, but of fine gauze-like fabric and quite attractive. 36" x 10 1/2" (91.2 x 26.6 cm). Ex Hamdy Sakr collection, London, acquired in the 1960's - 1970's.
