Description
AMERICAN SILK-EMBROIDERED MEMORIAL, silk and ink on silk, depicting a grieving woman with drawn head and arm in an Empire-style dress, leaning over a memorial topped by a funerary urn and inscribed "TO / The MEMORY of / My BELOVED / PARENTS", surrounded by foliage with a willow tree to the left-hand side and draping over the scene, oval frame of sequins encompasses the vignette. Housed under glass in a period, possibly original, wood frame with pinstripe inlaid decoration. First half 19th century. 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" sight, 12 1/2" x 15 1/2" OA.

Condition
Good visual condition with overall toning, silk with scattered holes, thread with some fading/fugitive color, scattered breaks and losses notably to tree leaves and memorial, sequins with darkening and a couple of losses, frame with some wear, surface scratches, a few flakes/chips along edges, and slight separation at corners. Not examined out of frame.
