Description
22.75" double-edged blade, 2.125" wide at forte with five luks (waves) hilt with copper band. Wire-wrapped grip with carved abalone inserts. Rattan-wrapped scabbard with abalone adornment en suite.
This keris was in the possession of "Talibon", an infamous raider and outlaw in the Philippines. Taking his nickname from the sword of the same name, Talibon was known for participating in raids against the Philippine government during the Post-Colonial Period, and was supposedly a trusted Lieutenant of Hadji Kamlon, another infamous Tausung raider and revolutionary. After an engagement with Phillipine forces in 1954, Talibon was killed and this keris taken as a trophy. It was presented to Captain Salvador Navarro of the Philippine Air Force, and was subsequently given to Dr. Casimiro Navarro. After the latter's death, it came into the possession of Allen Hatley of Ft. Worth Texas, a good friend of Dr. Navarro.
**Blade shows a pewter patination with some old oxidation and light pitting stains. Grip is in good condition with some missing and broken abalone. Replaced scabbard wrapping is stable and shows missing abalone consistent with grip.**
$400-$600
