MEISSEN (CO.) (GERMAN, ESTABLISHED 1710) PORCELAIN BLANC DE CHINE LIDDED DISH MID 18TH CENTURY, H 8.75" W 4.75" An urn shaped dish with central applied floral swags banded with a pierced fretwork in which rests the dome shaped, lobed lid surmounted by plume finial. Raised on a scrolled, trifid base with three swans having outstretched wings perched at each of the canted corners. Provenance: From the John Barrymore Collection
Condition
As viewed under UV light, the base of one swan fluoresces with evidence of skillful conservation. Inpainting fluoresces to the lip of the vessel. The applied foliage/flowers have a negligible degree of chipping & losses but are in relatively great condition for its age. The leaves on the lid fluoresce under UV light with evidence of skillful conservation. CP
