Description
1920s FLAPPER EVENING GOWN BLACK BUGLE GLASS BEADED GOLD LAME FORMAL RECEPTION GOWN

Absolutely stunning Elegant 1920s Flapper black net with flecks of small gold patterns over gold lame, one piece in construction reception evening ball gown with intricate black glass bugle beading and black sequins, many lovely details. The netting overlays the bodice and the skirt with flecks of gold throughout.
This beautiful ball gown evening dress has a long floor length skirt, netted and embellished with beading on its sleeves, square front neckline, a wide black beaded waist sash, and is fully lined with a heavy gold lame slip sewn inside as well as a finer gold lame second lining. The bodice has an intricate inner netting bodice with closures.

There are attributes present on this gown that point to many high end fashion designers of the period, but no designer label present. I am sure this gown had one at one time. If I was to guess I would say the gown may be French. This dress is a haute couture work from the time of the Belle Epoque period.

The basic material of the dress is a black netting with gold flecks in the pattern and plain black tulle netting. The netting is covering the under dress made of gold lame.

This gown has been a part of a museum exhibit collection from Rochester New York and cannot wait to be worn and loved. This gown still retains its original museums catalog identification number tag. This is in really amazing condition.

The bugle beaded bodice is fabulous and all the hooks, eyes and snaps closures are all present, along the center side bodice and waistband. The front of the bodice has two wide bands of beadwork traveling up both sides of bodice over the shoulders and around the neck line. Also continuing down from the waist line to the hem line. A lovely large beaded applique at waist with larger faceted long beaded strands falling downward into the skirt.

The skirt has another lighter finer gold lame lining with black floral lace attached. Considering the age and fragile nature of this beauty it is in quite good condition and still wearable if handled carefully.

CONDITION

There are typical issues here that plague most dresses of this period. Back of the dress is a draping panel that has been ripped at edges, as seen in photos. There are a few beads missing and tugs here and there. Some of the wide bands of beadwork have frayed or split. I am sure these can be restored. I did not see any rips in the outer netting. There is discoloration on areas of beadwork. There is small tears and roughness at the hem line. The gold lame looks like the hem line was hemmed up at one time, and can be let down with an additional 3 inches length can be added. No dryness and not brittle at all. Very soft. Inner lining is in very good condition, no shredding. There is a small bag of loose beads included. Wonderful for display inspiration, re-purposing or restoration. Can also be worn with care after some TLC. This is a wonderful display piece and would be a great addition into your antique fashion collection or would be good for restoration.
