Description

"Wings of peace on missions of war" by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, member War Production Council, large full-page advertisement in the Life Magazine 1942. Such ads during the World War II were used to reinforce brand awareness while a company was supporting the war effort instead of being able to provide consumer goods. This particular ad informs that South African Airways is drafted for the war services instead of providing civil transportation.

"Lodestars of South African Airways today fly their peacetime routes on missions of war...these Lodestars of the Empire's second greatest airline...transports for trade now drafted for defense...do service worthy of their brothers-in-uniform - the Hudson that bombs for freedom and the Lightning that protects him..."
