Nano Lopez (Colombian, b. 1955). "Davian" bronze, edition number 23/48 AP, 2012. Nano Lopez's "Davian" presents a magical dragon perched atop a treasure chest and licking a luscious ice cream cone. According to Lopez, Davian "is a young dragon seen here enjoying a well deserved 'Dragon berry' ice cream cone (his very favorite), after a long and exhausting class about fire extinguishing techniques." Lopez's technique combines traditional and innovative methods. The piece was created via the traditional lost wax process that originated in ancient Greece and Rome. Once the bronze was cast, Lopez added countless details via metal chasing, applied patinas to imbue the work with vibrant colors, and finally applied several coats of UV protective lacquer to both enhance and preserve the patina.
