Description
Mario Jason (20th Century) "Elancery" Limited Edition Bronze Sculpture. Numbered - #36/50. Dated 1994. Measures approx. - 46" high x 21" deep x 15" wide. After studying art at Bat Yam's School of Drawing and Sculpture in Israel, Jason studied dance and anatomy at the Otis Parson Art Institute. What he learned of anatomy greatly influenced his art making through a sharp attention to detail which set his artworks apart. Jason is fully involved involved in the process of his sculptures, beginning with sketches, followed by forming in clay or wax, and directly with the mold maker, foundry man, and finisher. His sculptures are traditional in style with a dynamic energy. Jason depicts figures in various styles of dance, such as ballet, flamenco, and jazz. Monique depicts a female in jazz attire. She stands on a piano, balancing upon one toe. The movement of her dress and placement of her arms suggest a brisk pause while dancing, as she sways to the beat. Mario Jason exhibited and won numerous prizes in Beverly Hills. His interest in the visual and performing arts fused when he would donate his sculptures towards ballet scholarships for aspiring young dancers.
