Fred Archer, Old Anchor Chain, c. 1920s, vintage gelatin silver print, 15 3/4 x 15 inches, mounted 20 x 16 inches. Signed, titled, and dated on the mount recto, exhibition labelsaffixed to the mount verso.

Condition is very good, mount has bent corners and small stain lower left mount

Biography:

A founding member of the Los Angeles Camera Club, Fred Archer was known for his experimental pursuits and technical virtuosity. He produced both unconventional and abstract images, and highly arranged theatrical photographs. Archer was also an important educator, who before starting his own school, The Fred Archer School of Photography, was part of the faculty at the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, California, Archer's prints are in the collection of the George Eastman Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, and The Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City, among others.
